Dr Mallett has given evidence in relation to divorce proceedings and in cases involving the impact of psychiatric illness on people’s ability to care for their children.
His general psychiatric experience includes assessment and treatment of people with psychosis, eating disorders, mood disorders, and somatoform disorder (including Munchausen’s syndrome); dealing with cases of exposure to a varying range of stresses and trauma, from military personnel and civilians who have been involved in combat zones and been tortured, to the victims of assault and to people experiencing the impact of victimisation in relationships. He has experience in the assessment of people with complex needs including major psychiatric disorders complicated by substance misuse, the effects of alcohol and personality disorder. In relation to work-related stress he has been involved regularly in employment tribunal cases and claims under the Equalities Act.
Dr Mallett has conducted frequent assessments of capacity in my role as a Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health Act, and in relation to capacity to undergo cross examination in court and agree to medical treatment.
He has also both conducted and been cross-examined in a number of independent enquiries into serious untoward incidents (SUIs) within Mental Health Services as well as representing the CNWL Trust at inquests. He is working within the Trust on the evaluation of SUIs and the improvement of service quality to prevent these. Dr Mallett also currently works with the provider of mental health services in Norfolk and Suffolk to improve their services to the local population.
Dr Mallett has undergone specialist training in medicolegal work within the last two years.
